College football fanbases are in a frenzy.
On Sunday, the College Football Playoff committee announced the final four programs vying for a spot in the national championship game — Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame.
Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Florida and Cincinnati narrowly missed the cut and remain on the outside looking in. Shortly after the top four were set in stone, the New Year’s Six bowl bids began to surface.
These refer the top six major NCAA Division I FBS bowl games such as the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Peach Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl.
Texas was understandably not selected for a New Year’s Six bowl. Instead, the Longhorns will appear in the Valero Alamo Bowl against Colorado on Dec. 29.
While some programs are happy with their respectful bowl bid, others are frustrated about being left out of the College Football Playoff selection. If you’re Texas, you may find solace in the fact that your top two rivals were left out of national title contention.
