After the departure of Shaka Smart, Texas fans felt a renewed sense of hope when the program landed Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard.
The preseason hype was real, as Beard was able to land multiple transfer players and build what seemed like a top five roster in the country on paper. Their defensive play has excelled at times, but the Longhorns have clearly struggled with consistency and scoring.
Although Texas hasn’t lived up to the preseason hype, they were still able to put together one of the most successful seasons for the program in recent memory with 21 wins.
However, Beard’s squad suffered a disappointing loss to TCU in their first game of the Big 12 tournament on Thursday. It’s an issue that has been ongoing for Beard, as he is now 1-5 in the Big 12 tournament while serving as the head coach at Texas Tech and Texas.
The Big 12 tournament doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things for Texas right now, but it does expose their lack of consistency and frequent scoring droughts.
To help ease the frustrations of Texas fans, Beard does have a 4-0 record in the first round of the NCAA tournament. A win in the first round would be a pleasant improvement over Smart’s teams over the last few seasons.
The early Big 12 tournament loss didn’t stop Red Raider fans among others from poking fun at Beard’s recent struggles. Take a look at a few of the best reactions below.
