Sixers’ Tyrese Maxey to replace Davion Mitchell in Clutch Challenge

Maxey on Thursday was named as an injury replacement for Kings rookie Davion Mitchell in the Clutch Challenge on Friday.

Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey on Thursday was named as an injury replacement for Sacramento Kings rookie Davion Mitchell in the Clutch Challenge on Friday.

Mitchell will miss the Rising Stars game and Clutch Challenge on Friday because of a right-hand injury that caused him to sit out on Wednesday versus the Chicago Bulls. The injury is not considered to be serious but it will prevent him from participating, nonetheless.

The Clutch Challenge is a team shooting competition that will take place between Games 2 and 3 of the Rising Stars game. The teams will compete to make shots from five locations on the court tied to iconic shots made by members of the NBA’s 75th-anniversary team.

The four teams in the Clutch Challenge:

  • Desmond Bane (Memphis) and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana)
  • Scottie Barnes (Toronto) and Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia)
  • Josh Giddey (Oklahoma City) and Evan Mobley (Cleveland)
  • Michael Foster Jr. (NBA G League Ignite) and Fanbo Zeng (NBA G League Ignite)

Maxey, who will compete in the Rising Stars game, is averaging 16.9 points, 4.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 50 games with the Sixers, including 49 starts. He is converting on 47.2% of his shot attempts from the field, including 39.5% from 3-point range.

The Rising Stars game is set to tip off at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
