On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers revealed their new “city edition” uniforms. Team president Chris Heck dropped a photo of the new digs on Twitter, giving us our first look at the new set.
Clearly, the team continues to embrace both the history of the city that it calls home as well as the franchise’s own history. The most notable feature on the new jerseys is the “Philadelphia” in script across the chest, which is not something the team has done as they traditionally go with the “Phila” designation. Also worth noting is the font of the jersey numbers, which harkens back to the very early days of the franchise.

While some fans would like to see the team step out of the box a bit with some of its alternate uniforms, this set provides a clean, classic, timeless look. The latest look does a good job building on some of the previous alternate uniforms the team has released and sticks well with the theme they’ve been building for the past few years.
For such a historic franchise in such a historic city, it makes sense to embrace that history and tradition. The team has done well to that aim, and these latest uniforms further serve that goal.
At some point, the Sixers will almost certainly either step out of the box or even give the fans a taste of the Iverson era uniforms that so many have been clamoring for, but for now, it’s hard to be displeased with the latest Sixers look.
