CAMDEN, N.J. — Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has never been known as a guy who is vocal out on the floor. The big fella prefers to lead by example.
Considering the somewhat slow start the Sixers have had to the season, they are pushing Embiid to be more vocal and to be more of a leader in that sense.
“I think Jo’s led by example and I think when he’s on the court, if you guys don’t see it, Joel is a man of very few words, unless he’s yelling at you or yelling at the ref,” said Georges Niang. “So just continuing to grow in that leadership role that we need him to. Lead with his voice and with his actions.”
It appears Embiid has taken strides in that sense. PJ Tucker mentioned after the win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday that the big fella was talking more on the defensive end. It’s the little things that’ll help the team.
“That’s kind of the next step and he’s kind of taking that challenge head on, and we’re 2-0 since he’s done that,” Niang added. “So we’ll be however many games have left and 0, if he keeps doing that.”
The Sixers will go as far as Embiid takes them. That means with both his voice and his play on the floor. He has to be the guy to carry this team to the success that they expect to have.
