Sixers praise the bench tandem of Shake Milton, Furkan Korkmaz in win

The Philadelphia 76ers praise Shake Milton and Furkan Korkmaz for their work against the Indiana Pacers.

The Philadelphia 76ers needed somebody to come off their bench and give them a spark as they continue on with this 2020-21 season. On Monday, they got that spark in a big way from Shake Milton and Furkan Korkmaz in a 130-114 win over the Indiana Pacers at home.

Milton had 26 points off the bench and he provided some big offensive moments including a highlight ankle breaker against Pacers big man Myles Turner. Korkmaz also had a big night with 19 points and he knocked down a couple of triples in what turned out to be a big game for him as well.

The two of them are very important to what Philadelphia wants to do offensively as they are the duo that provides the offense off the bench. The Sixers need those two to give the spark they’re looking for.

“It’s what we need,” said coach Doc Rivers. “We’re still working with that group trying to figure out what we can run that fits us the best. We ran some good stuff. I think our guys saw it, they kept running it. They kept finding each other so it’s nice and when those two play well off our bench, we’re pretty tough.”

Milton pointed to the ball movement the team had in order to get the job done in this one. The Sixers had 27 assists for the game as they were able to get the ball into the hands of the right players when it comes to their offense.

“It’s a team thing,” said Milton. “I think it’s just when the ball is moving like that, it’s hard to guard. The ball has energy and the ball is gonna find people with energy and Furk can shoot it. Everybody knows that so it just takes one for him to get going and that’s what happened.”

Milton then added that it helped him to get going as well. The Sixers want to be able to have him be their main offensive source off the bench and they need the ball to move a bit in order to make that happen.

“I just think the ball was hopping, everybody’s getting a feel for it,” he finished. “We played team basketball. Everybody was moving and that’s what coach wants and as you can see, whenever that ball is moving like that, it’s hard to guard.”

The Sixers now have one game left before the All-Star break as they move forward to face the Utah Jazz at home on Wednesday.
