Sixers news: Team will pick up Matisse Thybulle’s third-year option

The Philadelphia 76ers will pick up the third-year option on Matisse Thybulle.

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to move on from Sunday’s bad loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers as they get set to return home on Tuesday to host the Toronto Raptors. On Monday morning, they had to handle some housecleaning responsibilities.

As the season gets underway, the team announced that they will pick up the third-year option on guard Matisse Thybulle. The second-year guard from Washington was a mainstay in the rotation in his rookie season, but he has not played much in his second season.

Thybulle has played only 15 minutes across three games and it appears that he is more of a situational defender right now. However, coach Doc Rivers did say that he will receive his chance to crack the rotation. It did not help that he was dealing with an injury during training camp.

The team option means Thybulle will make roughly $2.8 million in the 2021-22 season. In the meantime, he will be looking to earn the favor of Rivers as the season wears on.
