Sixers’ Marial Shayok earned G League Player of the Week honors

Shayok has been on a tear this season for the Delaware Blue Coats, averaging 35 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Philadelphia 76ers two-way rookie guard Marial Shayok has been named the G League Player of the Week for the first week of the season, the league announced on Monday.

The 54th overall pick has been on a tear to start this season for the Delaware Blue Coats, averaging 35 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. His 35 points lead all G League players this season.

Shayok kicked off his 2019-20 campaign with Delaware by scoring 34 points against Maine Red Claws while he followed that up by recording a season-high 42 points, including 16 alone in the third quarter on Nov. 11 against the Greensboro Swarm.

Shayok was known for his hustle and ability on defense at Iowa State but he has proven to be a dynamic scorer so far this season with the Blue Coats. As the number one option on offense, Shayok has shot 48.7% from the field, including 33.3% from beyond the arc.

On a two-way contract, Shayok will spend the majority of the season in the G League while he is eligible to spend up to 45 days in the NBA with the Sixers.
