Free agency is right around the corner for the Philadelphia 76ers and now is the time to make sure they have all of their ducks in a row and be sure they have the room to execute the deals they want to make.
The big focus for Philadelphia ahead of free agency has been Miami Heat forward P.J. Tucker. The veteran out of Texas is set to become a free agent and the Sixers are considered the overwhelming favorites to steal him from Miami. He has obvious connections to the Sixers with James Harden and Daryl Morey who were with him while with the Houston Rockets.
In order to create cap space for Tucker, trades have to be made in order to outbid the Heat for his services. Philadelphia made a move on Tuesday morning that could set up the next few days when they picked up the $1.9 million team option on 4-year reserve guard Shake Milton after some belief around the league that the Sixers wouldn’t do so.
Some Sixers housekeeping — they have officially exercised Shake Milton’s team option for next season, a team official confirmed to me this morning

This means that Milton could possibly now be traded over the next few days in order to help create space for Tucker. Philadelphia would have to move more than just Milton in order to sign Tucker, but one can assume that he would be in the mix to be moved.
