The 2020 NBA Draft is going to be a much different process than in year’s past. Due to the ongoing pandemic, teams are not allowed just yet to see any potential prospects in person and everything must be done through video and Zoom calls.
For the Philadelphia 76ers, they have the 21st pick in the draft and they clearly have a need for some shooting. Stanford shooter Tyrell Terry has been a popular mock draft pick for them and he met with the media on Tuesday to discuss his draft plans and he said he met with the Sixers.
“I’ve done an interview with the 76ers,” said Terry. “I had great communication with them as well as my agent. I think it’s an organization that has a lot of pieces, a lot of talent. I think it’s going to be interesting to see how they all put it together to make that next jump in the Eastern Conference. I’m very aware of what the organization has and what their values are.”
So, how exactly would Terry fit in with the Sixers next to stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid? It is pretty simple as he is a guy who shot 40.8% from deep as a freshman at Stanford, but he wanted to hear from the team itself to find out how he fits.
“During my interview, there’s a section where you’re allowed to ask questions,” Terry explained. “That’s one of the questions I asked them, how do they see me fitting into their system? They had some really positive responses. They love the uniqueness of my shooting and my ability to play lead guard as well as play off the ball. I’ve had great conversations with them and my agent has as well as far as fit.”
Terry has been a guy who gets compared to great shooters like Stephen Curry and Trae Young in the past due to the way that he plays. If the Sixers were to take a flier on him, he would be a great help if he can come anywhere close to those two players.
On top of that, he is a very smart player who understands the game of basketball. He is ready to prove that as well as show there are other parts of his game that can help a team right now.
“I think, for the most part, I’m a pretty cerebral person,” he added. “I think having Stanford attached to my name, I think a lot of people are aware that I have a strong IQ as well as the IQ test that I took a few months ago. I think that my IQ is something that teams are aware of, but I think there are other things that I need to make clear that I’ve been working on over my IQ,” [lawrence-related id=37973,37970,37967]
