Sixers’ Georges Niang discusses fighting through current shooting slump

Philadelphia 76ers forward Georges Niang discusses staying positive amid his recent shooting slump.

PHILADELPHIA — Everybody knows what Philadelphia 76ers forward Georges Niang brings to the table. He can shoot the heck out of the ball and brings energy when the team needs it.

Over the previous four games, it has been tough sledding for Niang. He’s shooting a combined 2-for-13 from deep in that span after shooting 1-for-4 from beyond the arc in Thursday’s loss to the Miami Heat.

This is not the greatest time to go into a slump: The playoffs are right around the corner. However, The Minivan is a terrific shooter, and he is focused on staying positive amid the slump.

“Just keep shooting,” he said. “I think everybody knows I can shoot. I’m gonna make shots. I’ve made big shots. So they better go in in the playoffs. I don’t really think about it. I’m just out there shooting, trying to look at every single rep and trying to make and if it goes in, great. If it doesn’t, then I gotta adjust.”

On the season, Niang is still shooting 39.5% from deep which is a very good number. He’s also a career 40.2% shooter from 3-point range, so while this slump is coming at an inopportune time, evidence suggests he will turn this around.

“Obviously, I know they’re not going in,” he added. “So we’re just making a conscious effort to stick to my routine and stick to my guns and keep doing what I do.”

The Sixers have two games left beginning with Friday’s matchup with the Atlanta Hawks on the road.
