Philadelphia 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle continually makes huge defensive plays all over the floor. He uses incredible length and great instincts to make a big impact on the defensive end.
An example came during Wednesday’s road loss to the Golden State Warriors. Thybulle had three steals and two blocks, including an impressive one on a 3-point shooter in the corner. His ability to make plays like that even made star guard Steph Curry think twice about challenging him.
“You see what you see,” said coach Doc Rivers. “I think he’s athletic. He has great instincts. I would say that the No. 1 key for him is recovery time. He’s a quick jumper, Dennis Rodman-ish. There’s certain guys that can get off the floor quicker than other guys, and he’s one of those guys.”
Thybulle has this ability to make up for his own defensive mistakes. If a guy gets by him, he has the ability to make up for it with his length and athleticism where he can have a block from behind without it being called a foul. He has mastered that part of his game on the defensive end.
“How many shot blocks have you seen with him with jump shots?” Rivers marveled. “That’s abnormal. You don’t see that. He gets one or two a game sometimes because of his recovery time.”
