CAMDEN, N.J. — At the moment, the Philadelphia 76ers do not have an opponent for the second round of the playoffs. That could change on Thursday if the Boston Celtics finish off the Atlanta Hawks in Game 6.
The status of injured Joel Embiid continues to be at the forefront as the Sixers prepare for the semifinals. They expect to know more about his status on Thursday afternoon. Coach Doc Rivers revealed at practice that the big fella was meeting with the doctors and they should know more soon.
As far as Embiid has looked physically and mentally in whatever capacity he has been able to participate with the team, his teammates are happy with what they have seen.
“He looks great,” Shake Milton said. “He comes in and he’s around and, I don’t know, I’ve seen him for five years. So I’m not really really worried about it. I know whenever Game 1 comes around and he’s available, I know he’s gonna dominate like he always does. With Jo, it’s nothing you really have to worry about. He’s getting his work in and he’s going to be prepared.”
The big fella still needs to get his work in so he can be ready to go on the floor for the semifinals, but if Embiid is in a good mood and can stay in that positive state, that’s a big help in his recovery.
“Jo is always great, man,” Tobias Harris said. “He’s been good. We’ve been able to see him and just make sure that he’s progressing and whatnot. So yeah, other than that, he’s good.”
Milton and Harris have been teammates with Embiid the longest on this current roster. If any of his teammates can speak on his state of mind and how he looks, it’s them. Game 1 of the conference semifinals is Monday.
