Sixers assistant Sam Cassell may get 2nd interview for Jazz vacancy

Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell is among the 15 candidates who may get a second interview with the Utah Jazz for their coaching vacancy.

The Utah Jazz are still in the midst of their coaching search to replace Quin Snyder who stepped down after eight successful seasons at the helm in Utah. There are plenty of candidates to fill the vacancy and it appears that the Jazz are beginning to move on to the next phase.

Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell is one of the candidates as he had already conducted one interview, but he now may get a second one for the position.

Per The Athletic’s and The Stadium’s Shams Charania, Cassell is among the 15 candidates who may get that second interview:

Sources said the Jazz are scheduling second interview times with almost all of their 15 head coaching candidates as the next step in the process.

The 15 head coaching candidates are: Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant; current assistant Alex Jensen; Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin; Celtics assistant Will Hardy; Bucks assistant Charles Lee; Heat assistant Chris Quinn; Mavericks assistant Sean Sweeney; Celtics assistant Joe Mazzulla; Pistons assistant Jerome Allen; 76ers assistant Sam Cassell; G League head coach Jason Terry; former Lakers coach Frank Vogel; and ex-Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts.

The key wording here is “almost all” so while Cassell is mentioned here, it doesn’t mean that he is guaranteed a second interview. Either way, this is something worth monitoring. In both the 2021 and 2022 finals, teams were led by former Sixers assistants: Monty Williams with the Suns in 2021 and Ime Udoka with the Celtics in 2022.
