While the Philadelphia 76ers did not have the success that was expected out of them in the 2019-20 season, they still did have some big moments from individual players that were exciting to see.
One of those moments came on March 1 on the road at Staples Center as the Sixers were taking on the Los Angeles Clippers. Philadelphia was missing both Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid due to injury and they then lost Josh Richardson to an injury early in the game.
They needed somebody to step up and that somebody happened to be second-year guard Shake Milton.
The young man out of SMU had a helluva game finishing with 39 points and he shot 7-for-9 from deep. He made the first five triples he shot to tie an NBA record for most consecutive 3-pointers made.
Despite Milton’s heroics, the Sixers did come up short falling to the Clippers 136-130. However, it was impressive to see Milton step up on the road in Los Angeles. Philadelphia was not expected to win that game anyway due to their injuries and the Clippers having Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
New coach Doc Rivers was on the Clippers sideline that day and he certainly remembered what Milton did to his team. When he was introduced as Philadelphia’s coach, he had a lot of praise for the young man and he is excited to coach him now rather than have to game plan for him.
