Six Pack: Takeaways from the first weekend of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

The first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament had a little bit of everything. Here are six major takeaways from the opening rounds.

The opening weekend of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is officially behind us and there is plenty to take away from the first few days of action.

We saw a little bit of everything from history-making upset, to great showings of jubilation with the juxtaposition of agonizing heartbreak just feet away. We also saw our share of viral moments, from game-winning shots, missed dunks, and more. The first few days of the tournament had a little bit of everything that college basketball fans could want and once again reminded us why March Madness is the best time of the year.

Entering week two of the tournament, out of the  16 teams remaining, we have a nice mixture of top-four-seeded teams and longshots making Cinderella runs. Only two No. 1 seeds remain in Alabama and Houston but a pair of No. 2 seeds in Texas and UCLA remain as well as a trio of No. 3 seeds in Xavier, Gonzaga, and Kansas State.

If the first weekend was any sort of sign of what’s to come, this upcoming week of action is surely set to be a spectacular one once again. Before we preview the action later this week, let’s take a look first at our big takeaways from the first weekend of the 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
