Sights and sounds from Washington’s eighth spring practice

The Washington Huskies held their eighth spring practice on Thursday, under the watchful eye of special guest Pete Carroll.

Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll became the latest former NFL coach to take part in Washington’s spring practice on Thursday. After he made a guest appearance on Tuesday and tried to blend in from afar, taking in the workout with the rest of the spectators in attendance, he got involved on Thursday.

Carroll addressed the team for about 10 minutes after practice and spent a lot of his time on Washington’s east practice field alongside head coach Jedd Fisch, but helped mentor quarterbacks Will Rogers and Demond Williams between reps.

Thursday was also the first practice where the biggest play of the day wasn’t made by wide receiver Denzel Boston. That honor went to wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter, who pulled in a deep ball between cornerback Curley Reed and safety Peyton Waters before taking it all the way to the end zone for a 75-yard touchdown.

After practice, wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings had some high praise for the California transfer.

“Jeremiah is super smart,” Cummings said. “I think it’s a gift and a curse for him and he’s had a couple of offensive coordinators in his time so his ability to adjust and learn is elevated because of that. He’s also a big-time playmaker, he knows how to play the game and the biggest thing with him is just coaching up his technique.”

Spring Practice Notebook

  • Washington was once again limited to just eight offensive linemen, as Kahlee Tafai and Roice Cleeland missed practice. True freshman Paki Finau returned, wearing a yellow non-contact jersey.
  • The Huskies received a commitment from Portland State offensive lineman D’Angalo Titialli, who was also in attendance at practice on Thursday.
  • Cornerback Elijah Jackson, who was also wearing a non-contact jersey, pulled in the only interception of the day, soaring in front of a Will Rogers pass down the left sideline.
  • Safety Vincent Holmes, who entered his name in the transfer portal on Tuesday, participated in practice and ran with the second team defense in multiple team drills.
