Should the Buffs give Missouri State head coach Bobby Petrino a chance?

Bobby Petrino has a rough history, but is he worth a look?

In the next few weeks or months, there will be plenty of buzz regarding head coaching rumors for the Colorado Buffaloes (again).

After Karl Dorrell was let go following an 0-5 start to the year, the Buffs are back to square one. This time, Rick George has to be more methodical with his search before he loses his job.

With that being said, there are some options they should clearly avoid. However, Brian Howell of BuffZone has one surprising candidate on his list: Missouri State head coach Bobby Petrino.

There is plenty of baggage from Petrino’s past and it would be a hard sell to CU administration because of that. But, Petrino is a winner. He’s 15-11 at Missouri State, but 134-65 overall as a head coach, with stops at Louisville (twice), Arkansas and Western Kentucky. Took teams to 11 bowls in 14 seasons at the FBS level. The Montana native also has several years experience as an offensive coordinator.

Petrino’s troubled past is a giant red flag, and he spent a brief stint with the Atlanta Falcons before leaving midseason to take the job at Arkansas, so his reputation isn’t the best.

But he wins football games, and that’s what Colorado needs. This seems like a massive longshot and probably is a move George should avoid at all costs.
