Should the Bucs make a run at Leonard Fournette?

With running back Leonard Fournette being the subject of trade rumors, should the Tampa Bay Buccaneers try and add him to the roster?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ backfield is in desperate need of an upgrade, and with Ronald Jones as the incumbent back, the Bucs will likely look to add some more insurance through the upcoming NFL draft.

But, there’s a proven veteran running back who may be available for the Buccaneers at the right price.

So, should the Bucs make a run at the No. 4 pick from the 2017 draft?

Fournette is entering the last year of his rookie contract, so for the Bucs, there would be minimal financial risk since they could cut ties with the back after next season. Remember, the Bucs let former quarterback Jameis Winston play out the final year of his rookie deal last season, which turned out to be a smart financial decision on their part. Fournette rushed for a career-high 1,152 yards last season, but has missed 12 games over three seasons due to injuries and suspension.

But Tampa Bay might be perfect for Fournette because the offense wouldn’t be as run-heavy like in Jacksonville. Fournette had 265 rushes last season, seventh-most in the league. The Buccaneers offense has always been about the pass, and with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Tom Brady on the roster, that won’t change next year. Fournette’s body wouldn’t take such a pounding, and he’s the perfect back for Brady to target out of the backfield. Fournette had a career-best 76 receptions last season for the Jaguars after having just 58 combined receptions over his first two years.

If the Bucs want Fournette, it may not cost much. The running back would probably fetch a fourth or fifth rounder, and the Bucs have an extra one in round four after being awarded a compensatory pick. I think most Bucs fans would be willing to make that trade.
