Great minds think alike, right?
Earlier this week, NFL.com‘s Chad Reuter and ProFootballFocus.com‘s Trevor Sikkema both published 2024 NFL mock drafts that have the Denver Broncos trading up for UNC quarterback Drake Maye.
Reuter’s mock has the Broncos trading a 2024 first-round pick (No. 12 overall), a 2025 first-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick to land pick No. 4 from the Arizona Cardinals. Maye is available at that spot after wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. goes off the board third overall.
Sikkema’s mock has Denver giving the Washington Commanders a 2024 first-round pick (No. 12), a 2025 first-round pick, a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 first-round pick to move up to No. 2 overall. That’s obviously a lot more costly than Reuter’s projection for the No. 4 pick, but it’s also probably more realistic (it’s basically the Trey Lance package from 2021).
Broncos coach Sean Payton has downplayed rumors of the team potentially trading up for a quarterback, but that hasn’t stopped speculation. If Denver wants to land one of the top three QB prospects in this year’s class, the Broncos will need to trade up from No. 12 overall.
