Shiro Unlimited debut Decarnation, a new indie horror game

Battling inner demons – quite literally.

As part of the PC Gaming Show today, half-way through Summer Game Fest, Shiro Games have announced Decarnation, a new indie horror game. While the plot – a woman battles her inner demons, quite literally – isn’t out of the ordinary for this type of game, the art is beautiful and the gameplay looks great.

Here’s the trailer.

We spoke to Shiro’s Adrien Briatta, who said “it’s not a very, how can I say, cheerful game, but it’s really, really interesting.” It’s one of the first titles announced for the Shiro Unlimited publishing label, the expansion of operations for the developer of Wartales and Northgard. Briatta describes Decarnation as exactly what they’re looking for.

“It completely fit the way we wanted to work. The budget was exactly what we would want it to have. The team was a bit smaller when we approached, there were only four of them and expanded because their ambitions became higher and higher in terms of game length. It was, honestly, completely justified. So in the end, yeah, it pretty much fitted everything.”

He also describes it as a game they fell in love with at Shiro. “It’s so neat, you know, it reaches a certain level of bizarre and grotesque that really, really works.”

Decarnation will be out at some point in 2023.
