Shake Milton seeing playoffs as opportunity to help himself, Sixers

Philadelphia 76ers guard Shake Milton sees the playoffs as an opportunity for himself and the team.

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers will need some help from their bench in order to get to where they want to go in these NBA Playoffs and one of those guys they will turn to is Shake Milton.

The fourth-year veteran out of SMU has had an up and down season as he has dealt with a variety of injuries and COVID issues, but he had a strong end to the season scoring in double figures in three of their final six games including scoring 30 points in the season finale.

As he heads into the playoffs, he views it as an opportunity to help himself and the Sixers succeed.

“I don’t look at it as anything other than an opportunity,” said Milton on Friday. “I’ve talked to other guys in the same kind of boat as I am on the team and any time you see an opportunity like that, you just try to prepare as much as possible, and hopefully, you can take advantage of the time it’s called so that’s the only way I’ve been looking at it this whole week. Just as an opportunity.”

When Milton is healthy and at his best, he is able to break down a guy 1-on-1 and be able to get to the basket. He was able to do that down the stretch of the season and the hope now is that he can carry that into the postseason.

“He’s healthy and he’s had a long stretch of health now,” said coach Doc Rivers. “He knows how to play now with all the guys in the group. I think Shake’s in a great place.”

Game 1 with the Toronto Raptors is set for 6 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
