Shake Milton reacts to big game, more concerned with loss to Clippers

Philadelphia 76ers guard Shake Milton reacts to his career day in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Philadelphia 76ers needed all of the help they could get on Sunday as they faced off with a legitimate NBA contender in the Los Angeles Clippers already down their two top players in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid before losing another starter in Josh Richardson early.

That means it was next man up for the Sixers and that falls upon young Shake Milton who is in his second season in the league. Milton went off for a career-high 39 points along with tying an NBA record for consecutive triples made with 13, but alas it came in a tough 136-130 loss to the Clippers.

When told about the record, Milton had no cares for it.

“I didn’t know that happened, that’s pretty cool,” said Milton. “But we lost the game so at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. I know fans back home in Philly don’t really care. We lost so we’ll try to regroup and get the next one.”

Without Milton, the Sixers probably get blown out in this game. While Tobias Harris had a big game of 25 and Alec Burks contributed 15 points, they were down the three starters and then Al Horford fouled out in the fourth quarter. Milton really kept the team together on his own.

“It definitely feels cool, it’s a cool thing to say,” he added. “I’ve never played at Staples Center before, but like I said, we lost so you can’t take too much from it.”

The performance does speak volumes as Milton continues to take steps forward as a basketball player in this league. To do it on national television on the road against the Clippers is a big thing for him in his development.

“No moment feels too big,” he said. “I just try to take it as it comes and never get too high and never get too low. Just stay focused.”

Philadelphia will just have to regroup and make sure they’re ready for Tuesday’s game with the Los Angeles Lakers. [lawrence-related id=26854,26843,26835]
