Shake Milton focused on Sixers winning, not on individual accomplishments

Philadelphia 76ers guard Shake Milton is focused more on winning rather than any individual awards.

The Philadelphia 76ers have a lot of talent on their roster for the 2020-21 season led by the star duo of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, but there is more to this team than just those two stars. They have gotten a lot of help from other players on the roster to help them get to the top of the East.

One of those players is Shake Milton who has really embraced his role as the lead guard off the team’s bench. He is averaging 14.6 points and a career-high 3.1 assists and he is putting himself in the early conversation for 6th Man of the Year.

However, the third-year guard out of SMU is not focused on anything he does individually. It is all about getting wins at the end of the day.

“I’m just trying to get W’s,” said Milton on Sunday. “Each game, we come out here, I’m trying to get wins, and hopefully put ourselves in a good position, end up being first in the East and go from there. That’s our goal, that’s what we’re trying to accomplish, individually, I don’t really look at that type of stuff. I’m just trying to get better each game and that’s pretty much it.”

Playing for coach Doc Rivers has put him in an advantageous situation at this point of his career. Rivers has coached some of the game’s great 6th men in Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams and Milton said he watched some YouTube clips of them to prepare for the season.

Being at the top of the East allows Milton and his other teammates to be in the conversation for any individual awards at the end of the season. The Sixers have always been focused on getting wins and that has made the chemistry great moving forward for them. As long as they’re winning, everything else will take care of itself.

“We got great chemistry,” Milton added. “It’s an easy group of guys to be around, to play with, everybody’s unselfish, and nobody really cares about themselves. Everything is about the win and when you’re playing for a team like that, it makes everything easy.”

The Sixers will take on the Indiana Pacers at 7 p.m. EST in the middle game of their 3-game road trip.
