The Philadelphia 76ers were able to leave Buzz City with a 118-111 win over the Charlotte Hornets, but there was a bit of a scare in the first half. The team is already dealing with a lot of injuries so this was not something the team wanted to deal with right now.
Shake Milton, who is so important to what this team wants to do, looked like he suffered a serious knee injury in the first half. It appeared to be a non-contact play and those always mean the worst whenever they happen.
Fortunately for Milton and the Sixers, it was not.
“No, thank God it wasn’t,” said Milton. “I went back to the back and checked it out, I felt okay, I was ready to play anyways, and I was good to go.”
The Sixers definitely held their breath when it happened. They need Milton out there as he plays an important role for them as a scorer off their bench. He is their third-leading scorer so he obviously plays an important role for them and he had 13 points in the win on Wednesday.
“Yeah, he’s good,” said coach Doc Rivers. “I was scared, I’ll tell you that I thought it was his knee when he did, but they checked him out, the doctor checked him out, KJ (trainer Kevin Johnson) came back and told me he was ready, and then Shake actually came to me to tell me he was ready. I got a kick out of that. I guess he was basically telling me to put him back in. So that tells me he was ready to go.”
When asked if he would be ready to go on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers, Milton felt fairly confident that he will be all set to go.
“Yeah, I’m gonna play,” he said succinctly.
