Shai Gilgeous-Alexander suffers MCL sprain, out at least two weeks

The Thunder open their season in less than a month.

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced on Wednesday that star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander suffered a Grade 2 left MCL sprain that will cost him at least the first two weeks of training camp, which is set to begin next week.

The Thunder will reevaluate Gilgeous-Alexander in two weeks. The Thunder are set to open their 2022-23 regular season on Oct. 19 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Thunder general manager Sam Presti is set to speak with the media for his preseason media availability on Thursday morning, so expect there to be more information on Gilgeous-Alexander’s injury at that time.

Gilgeous-Alexander is entering his fifth season and fourth with the Thunder. This is the first year of his five-year, $172 million extension.
