Seton Hall at Louisville: Three things to know
- We haven’t yet seen the Pirates in action, and there are questions on how Seton Hall will fare without the likes of Quincy McKnight and Myles Powell. The cupboard is certainly not bare, and the Pirates still have the dynamic F Sandro Mamukelashvili to be a force in the middle, while G Bryce Aiken transfers over from Harvard and will be an immediate impact player. G Myles Cale and G Jared Rhoden also return, so the Pirates will be strong early on if they can jell.
- Louisville looked strong Wednesday in its opening game 79-44 win over Evansville. The Cardinals blasted out to a 20-point halftime lead and had it on cruise control the whole way. G Carlik Jones looks like the next big thing, going for 18 points, 8 boards and 7 assists. Although, no offense to Evansville, but we should pump the brakes until we see him against a legit D1 team.
- There were more contributors than just Jones in the opener. The Cardinals had four scorers in double digits, and G/F Samuell Williamson was even more effective knocking down two-thirds of his shot attempts while finishing with 17 points, 6 boards and 5 dimes. He turned it over four times, too, something he needs to curb.

Seton Hall at Louisville: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Louisville 79, Seton Hall 70
Money line (ML)
Louisville (-278) is a little more expensive than I care to wager on a standalone ML play, although tossing it into a multi-team parlay is not something I’d be averse to doing. Straight up, though? AVOID.
Against the spread (ATS)
LOUISVILLE -6.5 (+100) passed the eyeball test on its home floor in the opener, but again, it was against an Evansville team from the Missouri Valley Conference which did not win a league game a season ago.
We’ll get a much better idea of the legitimacy of the Cardinals after this one. I liked their athleticism in the opener, however, and the fact they have a game under their belt, while the Pirates are playing for the first time is a huge difference.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 142.5 (-115) is a decent value play here as long as the Pirates do not show a lot of early rust in its initial foray into the 2020-21 season. Louisville hit 58.5% from the field in the opener, and it was a respectable 37.5% from behind the arc. The Cardinals look to be a high-flying offense just scratching the surface.
