Earlier this week, CBS Sports staff writer Isaac Trotter released his top 25 college basketball coaches list ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The factors taken into account were career wins, NCAA Tournament success, regular-season conference titles, and overall recruiting acumen.
Despite entering last season with minimal expectations, UW wound up winning 25 games, the Maui Invitational, a Big Ten regular season title, and secured a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
So, it should come as no surprise that Cobb, Wisconsin’s very own Greg Gard comes in at No. 21 on Trotter’s top 25 list.
Coach Gard is entering his eighth season with the Badgers, where he’s compiled a 144-78 record and won two Big Ten regular season titles. It’s also worth noting that he’s won the Big Ten Coach of the Year twice during his tenure at Wisconsin (2019, 2021).
Other Big Ten coaches to make the list include Michigan State’s Tom Izzo at No. 5, Illinois’ Brad Underwood at No. 17, Michigan’s Juwan Howard at No. 18, and Purdue’s Matt Painter at No. 19.
