See it: Giants’ Daniel Jones working on pocket movement, body control

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) is working out at Duke University with a focus on his pocket movement and body control.

The New York Giants are prepared to give fourth-year quarterback Daniel Jones another shot to prove he can lead their franchise into the future.

Jones missed the final six games of the 2021 season with a neck injury and should be ready to participate in full when training camp begins this summer.

In the interim, Jones is ramping up, working on basic movements down at his alma mater, Duke, to prepare him for camp.

Jones’ Giants career has been a rollercoaster ride, mainly of dips, and his fifth-year option is due in May. The Giants aren’t likely to pick that option up, meaning this will be a “make or break” season for him.

“My focus is on preparing myself, and I take full responsibility for how I’ve played, and we haven’t won enough games,” Jones said last week. “We haven’t scored enough points. We haven’t done things well enough. I take responsibility for that. As a quarterback, you play a big role in those things. So, that’s what I’m focused on. I’m working on improving and making sure that myself as well as the offense, as well as the team, is ready to go and we’re improving daily.”

To be fair, Jones has played under two head coaches and three offensive coordinators in his three seasons here. He has also endured injuries in each of his three seasons that have caused him to miss games and has rarely played a game where he has been surrounded by his full complement of weapons.

Jones has also played predominantly behind a makeshift offensive line that has been one of the poorer performing units in the league.
