SEC reveals permanent opponets for baseball ahead of 2025 season

The upcoming additon of Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC has shaken up the way the conference schedules baseball games.

The SEC continues to make arrangements as they prepare to welcome Oklahoma and Texas to the conference beginning in the summer of 2024.

The conference announced Thursday that Auburn will play Alabama and Georgia on an annual basis beginning in 2025 as part of the league’s permanent schedule release.

Since 1994, Auburn has faced Alabama 111 times and has won 51 of those matchups. The Tigers won the first game of a three-game series last April but have lost three straight games to the Crimson Tide including Alabama’s 7-4 win over Auburn in the SEC Tournament.

In that same time frame, Auburn has faced Georgia 72 times but has won 42 games. The Tigers have won six of the last 10 games against the Bulldogs dating back to 2017.

Despite the rich history of the rivalry in every sport, Auburn and Georgia have not played on a consistent basis. Auburn and Georgia played every season from 2000-2007, but would not go on to play again until 2010. Since 2010, Auburn and Georgia have played a total of nine three-game series’, skipping the 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022 seasons. The rivals are also set to not play each other again in 2024. The addition of Georgia to the permanent schedule will be a relief to those who enjoy the rivalry with our neighbors to the east.

Beginning in 2025, SEC baseball teams will face two permanent opponents and a rotation of eight additional opponents. The format will keep the current SEC schedule at 30 games. At the time of this post, the SEC has not released the details of a new format regarding the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover.

Here’s a look at each program’s permanent SEC opponents beginning in 2025.
