The SEC will be starting its conference schedule for the 2020-21 men’s basketball season on Dec. 29, the league announced Friday.

The season features the usual 18-game schedule with two game dates reserved, one for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge in January and another for a bye. Meanwhile, SEC women’s basketball play will begin on Dec. 31, and teams will play a 16-game schedule.

The conference also announced that it would be starting nonconference play on Nov. 25, the date approved earlier this month by the NCAA Division I Council. Teams are permitted to begin practicing on Oct. 14.

UF was originally slated to begin the season more than two weeks before that on Nov. 10, and it’s currently unclear how this change will impact its schedule this season.

The Pac-12 had previously put a moratorium on all athletics events until Jan. 1, but it relented and agreed to bring back both college football and basketball in November. Now, only the Ivy League, which has placed a similar pause on events until the beginning of the new year, is yet to rejoin the fold.
