Seahawks still considering at least 2 more defensive coaching candidates

The NFL’s coach hiring cycle has been abnormally slow this year.

The NFL’s coach hiring cycle has been abnormally slow this year. That could be one of the reasons the Seahawks haven’t made their reported defensive hirings official as of yet.

So far, we’ve learned that defensive line coach Clint Hurtt is expected to be promoted to defensive coordinator. Former Broncos DC Ed Donatell is also reported to be joining the staff, as well. The last piece of the puzzle is who will replace Andre Curtis as the defensive pass game coordinator.

The Seahawks have been reported to be hiring Karl Scott for this role. He spent the 2021 season on Mike Zimmer’s Vikings staff after three years as Nick Saban’s DB coach at Alabama. There are conflicting reports on this account, though and former Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai remains a subject of interest.

Fans should expect a resolution soon.

The Giants are apparently going to hire Wink Martindale as their new DC. That leaves only one more prime defensive coaching spot open around the league. The Saints have promoted DC Dennis Allen to head coach after Sean Payton’s exit. Once his former position is filled the dominoes should fall into place.
