The Seattle Seahawks were fortunate to have their starting right tackle, Brandon Shell, in the lineup in Week 14 against the New York Jets, but the reunion didn’t last long.

Shell left the game, limped to the locker room and was then ruled out for the remainder of the matchup with an ankle injury. He was replaced by Chad Wheeler, who was just signed off the practice squad this week.

“He tweaked it a couple times and then it was just one too many times,” coach Pete Carroll said of Shell after the win. “It was really studly of him just to go out and play. It’s going to be a touch and go week – I don’t know what’s going to happen this week and next weekend coming up.”

Shell had recently recovered from the high-ankle sprain he sustained in the Thursday night contest against the Cardinals in November, causing him to miss the last two games.

“I was really proud of him for playing this game,” Carroll continued. “He’s got a smile on his face but he’s going to be pretty sore tomorrow.”
