Schuyler Rimmer reportedly joins Darvin Ham’s Lakers coaching staff

New Lakers head coach Darvin Ham had added another assistant to his staff.

Darvin Ham’s coaching staff is starting to take shape.

Schuyler Rimmer, who had been an assistant with Ham on the Milwaukee Bucks staff, has reportedly joined Ham in Los Angeles.

Rimmer may not be well known among Lakers or NBA fans, but he has been a video coordinator and player development coach in Milwaukee. He has been someone who would bang with and play against Giannis Antetokounmpo during drills. Although he never played in the NBA, he was a star in high school in Orlando, Florida, and he was a bit player for the University of Florida Gators as a walk-on.

Rimmer stands 6-foot-10, and given his role with Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, perhaps he will play a similar role with Anthony Davis, although the exact role he will have with the Lakers has not been announced.

According to Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rimmer has had a hand in helping Antetokounmpo go from a great player to an all-time great who now owns two MVP awards and a world championship ring.

Via Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

“This is the first time we’ve ever had someone like Schuyler,” Antetokounmpo said. “Usually (former assistant coach Sean) Sweeney used to guard me a lot, but he was too small. Schuyler’s actually like 6-9, he’s a big dude. He’s like 240 (pounds), also.

“He makes me better. It’s fun working with Schuyler. He guards me with pride.”

Many feel Davis could use an assistant coach who will challenge him and keep him motivated and hungry on a consistent basis.

It is supposedly why Ham is also considering hiring former NBA player Rasheed Wallace onto his staff.
