Saquon Barkley excited to work with new Giants coaching staff

Running back Saquon Barkley likes what he hears from the incoming New York Giants coaching staff, and is excited to work with them.

One of the aspects that likely lured in the New York Giants’ new coaching staff this offseason is the team’s youth. Among the youthful talent on the roster is quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley — the team’s top draft picks the last two years are likely going to be the assets the Giants build around for years to come.

Barkley’s talent is undeniable and when healthy, he is one of the league’s best running backs. But this will be the second coaching staff Barkley will be with during his short NFL career.

Barkley gave his initial thoughts on the new coaching staff via the New York Post at radio row in Miami.

“I first called [Joe Judge] on the phone and we had a great conversation. Then I got to meet him in person and I love what I see so far,” Barkley said. “Even though we are in January, you can see that look in his eye that he wishes it was August already and we’re going out to the field. Really excited about the hire.”

Judge was nothing but impressive during his first press conference as the Giants head coach in early in January. He stressed working hard and putting a product on the field which would make fans proud.

But Judge isn’t the only coach Barkley is excited about.

“I haven’t called [Ezekiel Elliott] about [Jason Garrett], but I definitely will catch up with him,” Barkley said. “But I played against him for two years. I know how he likes to use his running backs. There’s only so much Zeke can tell me that I haven’t seen with my own eyes.”

The run-first philosophy and success Garrett had with his running game back in Dallas has Barkley very excited to get started working with the former Cowboys head coach.

The new Giants coaching staff has to prioritize getting the ball to Barkley as often as possible given that he is the team’s best player. With all the Giants have invested in Barkley, it’s nice to see him endorse his new coaching staff.
