San Diego State isn’t going to power away on the ground, and Mayden has to connect on a few early big throws to open things up.
Middle Tennessee has to get over a few big SDSU defensive plays in the backfield with some deep shots of its own.
But it comes down to mistakes. Middle Tennessee needs them, and San Diego State can’t make them.
When Middle Tennessee loses, it loses big – all five losses were by 15 points or more – going 0-5 when allowing 35 points and 7-0 when giving up fewer.
When San Diego State loses it’s because the D didn’t work – it can’t handle any sort of a shootout. It’s 0-4 when allowing more than 27 points, but those four teams? Utah, Arizona, Boise State, and Fresno State.
The Aztecs allowed over 14 points just five times this year, mostly against awful teams. The Blue Raiders aren’t awful, but they won’t get enough takeaways and they’ll struggle too much with the SDSU defensive front.
