San Antonio Spurs fall to Summer Sacramento Kings 85-59 in California Classic play

A trio of prospects stood out while star rookie Stephon Castle sat out.

Thankfully for the San Antonio Spurs squad playing at the California Classic Summer League series, winning is incidental to what happens with the players on a more granular level. Because the Summer Spurs did not fare much better than they did in their first tilt of the California Classic, falling 85-59 to the Sacramento Kings’ summer league squad.

But with Stephon Castle sitting this tilt out, the Spurs got a closer look at several players for longer stints as the UConn alum’s minutes were soaked up by a trio of standout players. Guard Tyson Ward (11 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assists) and forward Harrison Ingram (11 points, 4 boards, and 2 dimes) led an anemic San Antonio offense.

Reserve guard DJ Horne (6 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assists, and as many steals) and backup forward Yauhen Massalski (6 points, 5 boards) also contributed off the bench in the Spurs’ second loss of summer league play.

San Antonio drops to 0-2 in California Classic play with the loss, and will next face the Chinese National Team on Tuesday, July 9.
