Thankfully for the San Antonio Spurs squad playing at the California Classic Summer League series, winning is incidental to what happens with the players on a more granular level. Because the Summer Spurs did not fare much better than they did in their first tilt of the California Classic, falling 85-59 to the Sacramento Kings’ summer league squad.
But with Stephon Castle sitting this tilt out, the Spurs got a closer look at several players for longer stints as the UConn alum’s minutes were soaked up by a trio of standout players. Guard Tyson Ward (11 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assists) and forward Harrison Ingram (11 points, 4 boards, and 2 dimes) led an anemic San Antonio offense.
Reserve guard DJ Horne (6 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assists, and as many steals) and backup forward Yauhen Massalski (6 points, 5 boards) also contributed off the bench in the Spurs’ second loss of summer league play.
