San Antonio slips in latest Bleacher Report’s power rankings

“The Charlotte Hornets may join the mix soon, but the San Antonio Spurs are still cruising toward a bottom-three record,” writes B/R.

In Bleacher Report’s latest NBA power rankings, the San Antonio Spurs have found themselves slipping a bit in the estimation of B/R’s Andy Bailey. Per the weekly ranking’s author, the 8-36 Spurs ongoing losing tendencies justify a drop from No. 26 overall to No. 27.

“The Charlotte Hornets may join the mix soon, but the San Antonio Spurs are still cruising toward a bottom-three record,” writes Bailey. “In the end, even with a relatively weak draft class incoming in 2024, that’s probably the preferred outcome for the Spurs’ 2023-24. But they might have the skeleton of a legitimately competitive team already on the roster.”

“San Antonio is plus-17.5 points per 100 possessions (99th percentile) when Victor Wembanyama, Tre Jones (an actual point guard) and Devin Vassell are on the floor,” notes the NBA analyst.

“That just happens to be the team’s 10th-most used trio,” notes Bailey. Good for player development? Absolutely?

Good for winning games? Maybe at some point.
