When it comes to throwing down the middle of the field, this is where Sam Ehlinger does the most damage. In fact eight of 10 scoring throws come down the middle. With a vast majority coming in intermediate and deep throws down the middle. His yardage accounts for 68.3% of his overall production.

This is why getting Jake Smith back healthy for the TCU game is so vital. Smith will attack defenses right up the seam. Having a player who can find holes in the coverage and make players after the catch is huge. In fact last season Smith caught three of his six touchdown passes across the middle. They were in that intermediate to deep range for Ehlinger.

For Jake, 56% of his yards came after the catch, so he will do damage to opposing defenses. For comparison with the man he was set to replace, Devin Duvernay generated 51.6% of his yards after the catch.
