The Houston Rockets announced a new initiative with the NBA to help provide support for ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) relief efforts.
On Friday, through the official “Rockets Shop” online store, the team began taking pre-orders for cloth face coverings with its logo. All Rockets proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Houston Food Bank.
To help limit the future spread of the virus, local officials in Houston and many other areas around the United States have indicated that masks will continue to be strongly advised or mandated — even as parts of cities are reopened in the coming weeks and months.

The team’s sale includes three face coverings for $24, with an expected ship date of four-to-five weeks, according to the website. That timetable of mid-to-late May could line up with when many cities around the United States, including Houston, are potentially reopened to some degree.
The face coverings are made for personal use, and are not designed to be a replacement for medical-grade personal protective equipment (PPE) or to be used in any health care or clinical environment.
