The New Orleans Saints have officially begun their search for a head coach on Monday, requesting an interview from Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
Moore, the former Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys quarterback, started his coaching career in 2018 as the Cowboys quarterbacks coach. From there, he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019 where he would spend the next four years, leading two No. 1 ranked offenses (’19, ’21) during his tenure. Moore would then be hired by the Los Angeles Chargers under head coach Brandon Staley in 2023. His time there would be short as Staley was fired later in the year. Moore found himself a new home this past off-season joining the Philadelphia Eagles who ending this season ranking No. 8 in total offense and No. 2 on the ground.
For those that are wondering what a Kellen Moore offense looks like, one of the most prominent aspects of his system is his usage of motion. Moore does a phenomenal job of keeping the defense on their toes with lots of pre-snap movement offensively. He has also done a good job of molding his offensive to fit the strengths of his personnel. In Los Angeles, Moore put more of an emphasis on Justin Herbert and the passing game due to the teams inconsistency running the football. Versus now in Philly, where consistent of maulers up front along with a supreme talent with Saquon Barkley.
At only 36 years old, Moore is one of the leagues young and up-and-coming coaches and will likely get a shot as a head coach at some point or another. With the Saints gauging interest, that shot could come very soon.
