Saints request interview with Bills OC, former LSU national champ for head coach job

The New Orleans Saints have formally requested an interview with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady for their head coaching job:

Here’s another offensive coach added to the list of candidates that the New Orleans Saints have requested to interview: Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Like Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, he was a former Saints offensive assistant under Sean Payton during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

But Brady started his coaching career as the linebackers coach at his alma mater, William & Mary in 2013. After a couple years with the team, Brady would join Penn State as a graduate assistant before getting his shot in the league. Brady would spend two years with the Saints before heading to LSU as their pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

In Baton Rouge is where Brady’s name was put on the map, as he helped lead quarterback Joe Burrow and the Tigers to arguably the greatest season in college football history in 2019. His success with the program, allowed him the opportunity to become offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. After two underwhelming seasons with the team, he was let go and hired on as the quarterbacks coach in Buffalo in ’22. Brady was elevated quickly to offensive coordinator this past offseason after taking over midseason in 2023.

In Buffalo, Brady’s success has been predicated off of the Bills ability to run the football, which in turn opens up opportunities for quarterback Josh Allen to make some plays down the field. Brady’s emphasis on getting Allen and James Cook the ball on the ground is quietly why the Bills are a team no one wants to play in the AFC playoffs. The two players have combined for 28 touchdowns on the ground this season and over 1,500 yards. It has also allowed Josh Allen to make less turnover worthy plays as he has just 7 turnovers on the entire season. The lowest of his career.

Brady, also one of the youngest coaches in the game, will be on everyone’s list of top coaching candidates with his impressive stint in Buffalo. With the familiarity to the Saints organization, it comes to no surprise that they are considering him to be their lead guy in 2025.
