Saddiq Bey set NBA rookie record for games with at least 5 3-pointers

Saddiq Bey notched yet another record on Saturday with his latest shooting performance from behind the arc.

On Saturday, Detroit Pistons rookie Saddiq Bey finished with 22 points and an NBA record after another strong shooting performance in a loss on the road to the Charlotte Hornets.

Bey converted on 7-of-21 shots from the field, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range during the 107-94 loss to the Hornets. He also contributed seven rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots and two steals in 40 minutes of work.

The performance by Bey marked his 10th game of the season with at least five 3-pointers, the most all-time by a rookie. He surpassed the previous record of nine, held by Stephen Curry (2009-10) and Allen Iverson (1996-97).

Throughout the season, Bey has emerged as not only one of the best rookie shooters, but as one of the best overall shooters in the league.

On the season, Bey is averaging 11.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game on 38% shooting from 3-point range. His 148 total 3-pointers lead all rookies this season, while he ranks 25th among all players in the NBA in that category.

Bey already this season has set the Pistons’ all-time rookie mark for 3-pointers, while he also recently set the franchise record for a quarter with six. Had Bey had the opportunity to play a full 82-game schedule, he likely would have set the NBA all-time rookie record for 3s in a season (187).

While Bey will likely fall short of winning Rookie of the Year, the 19th overall pick turned in a strong first season in the NBA and projects to have a bright future ahead with the Pistons.
