The Chicago Bears have faced many questions this offseason, including the future of star receiver Allen Robinson, whose contract expired after the 2020 season.

Robinson has been a consistent contributor on offense for Chicago, posting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons — that, despite the Bears’ struggles on offense.

With the Bears intent on keeping Robinson around — but not being able to come to terms on a long-term extension — Chicago placed the franchise tag on Robinson, which guarantees him $18 million in 2021.

Earlier this offseason, Bears general manager Ryan Pace discussed the importance of keeping your good players around, and there’s no doubt that Robinson has been not a good, but great player for this team since signing his original three-year deal in 2018.

Which made it easy for Pace to slap the franchise tag on Robinson this offseason. Especially considering his importance to the offense.

“As I said before, the league gives us that tool for a reason and not just with us, you see it with multiple teams using the franchise tag,” Pace said. “We tagged him for a reason. He’s a really good player. We’re glad he’s part of our team. We know he’ll be here in 2021. Again, he’s a focal part of our offense. It’s a resource that we have that we use and we’ll continue to work through it.”

But the concern lies in the fact that the Bears and Robinson haven’t engaged in contract talks since last September, which really doesn’t provide a ton of confidence about Robinson’s future in Chicago past 2021.

Although, to be fair, Pace’s future with the Bears is even less certain.
