Ryan Garcia, on his return: ‘Obviously, I’m going for some top guys’

Ryan Garcia is willing to fight anyone to get his career back on track if he cannot make a match-up with a high-profile opponent.

The 23-year-old lightweight has been out of action since defeating Luke Campbell back in January 2021 before a mental health break and a hand surgery kept him out.

He is expected back in the ring this April, and the former interim champion hopes that he can line up a big name to fight.

“It’s definitely a range of opponents,” Garcia told ES News, reported BoxingScene.com. “Obviously, I’m going for some top guys. Hopefully we can come back with a bang. If not, I’m going after anybody at this point.”

Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) was on his hiatus when Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, George Kambosos and Vasiliy Lomachenko were all in action. Now Lopez is set to move up to 140 pounds while Haney and Kambosos appear on course for a clash in Australia.

That would leave Davis, JoJo Diaz, Isaac Cruz, and Jorge Linares on the next rung to make a prominent event.

“It’s going to be an exciting time,” Garcia said. “It’s finally a time to prove … not prove but have a response to all of the things that have been said about me during this time where I really had no voice.”
