Ryan Fitzpatrick’s craziest stat for Dolphins’ win over Jaguars

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick enjoyed one heck of a performance on Thursday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars. We’d obviously point to the Dolphins 31-13 win first and foremost, but Fitzpatrick played a lights out football game along the way and set a team record for completion percentage in a single game among all qualifying passers (20 attempts or more). Between that and the offensive efficiency the Dolphins opened the game with — you’d think the accomplishments of Fitzpatrick and the offense would be sufficiently summarized.

But you’d be wrong.

Fitzpatrick was everywhere on Thursday night — including catching a batted pass in the air to help him fill out this incredible stat line. NFL Research has found that Fitzpatrick is just the second player since 1948 to secure 2+ touchdown passes, 1+ rushing touchdowns, 25+ rushing yards and a catch in a single game. The first? Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton back in 1983.

If that doesn’t summarize the Ryan Fitzpatrick experience, we’re not sure what else possibly would. And the fact that Fitzpatrick joins ‘Sweetness’ with this collection of stats all in a single game only makes it more fitting after Fitzpatrick led the Dolphins in rushing for the 2019 NFL season. We probably shouldn’t expect to see all-time odd performances out of Ryan Fitzpatrick each and every week, but we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him get locked in for another stretch of 20+ completions in a row in his next game against Seattle after seeing his stretch of 21 consecutive completions end in the 1st-half against Jacksonville on a ball that was just slightly behind TE Mike Gesicki.

Miami will need every bit of Fitzmagic they can muster if the team is going to knock off the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4. That’s the bad news. But the good news is that Fitzmagic is already firing on all cylinders after Week 3.
