Rutgers men’s lacrosse saw this NCAA Tournament streak end, even as they finished top 20 in the nation.
Despite the lack of a postseason for Rutgers, this was still a solid season for the Scarlet Knights. Especially, considering how strong the Big Ten was this season.
Rutgers finished the season 8-6 (1-4 Big Ten) following a quarterfinals loss to Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament. They were No. 19 in the final Inside Lacrosse regular season rankings.
Rutgers did not make the NCAA Tournament following postseason berths the previous two seasons. Last year, for the first time in program history, the Scarlet Knights made the tournament’s final four.
The failure to either get a second win in conference play or win one game in the Big Ten Tournament Tournament likely doomed Rutgers’s postseason outlook. A mid-February 14-13 loss at Army in the third game of the season might also have hurt Rutgers’ tournament aspirations.

Four Big Ten teams made the NCAA Tournament, with Michigan automatically qualifying following their taking the Big Ten Tournament title.
During the regular season, Rutgers beat Michigan at home 13-12 in overtime.
