Rutgers football recruiting: Gavin Grover on cutting down his list, previews his final three schools

Rutgers football is recruiting Gavin Grover and hosted the Ohio tight end on a visit in late March.

Sometime early this week, Ohio three-star tight end Gavin Grover will release his final cutdown with a potential decision coming soon.

A 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end with great length, Grover is a three-star recruit who Rivals has as the No. 27 player in Ohio in this current recruiting class. He holds a strong offer list that includes Cincinnati, Duke, Iowa State, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and West Virginia along with several others.

Grover took a visit to Rutgers football in late March for a spring practice. It was a visit that the talented recruit said certainly helped raise the stock of the program. Whether it was enough to get Rutgers into Grover’s final countdown, however, remains to be seen.

After announcing on Sunday that his list would be cut down, Grover said that “I would say Rutgers is recruiting me the hardest right now.”

“They are doing well and Coach Aurich and I have talked a lot,” Grover told Rutgers Wire on Sunday.

Last season for Olentangy High School (Lewis Center, OH) Grover had 42 catches for 359 yards with two touchdowns.

As for the timing of his decision, Grover said that recent visits have helped him feel comfortable about his finalists.

“I’m finally to a point where I have three schools that I want to go to and I would be happy with,” Grover told Rutgers Wire on Sunday.

All three schools that make the cut could be getting official visits but Grover “may pull the trigger before someone beats me to the commitment.”

Last week, Grover visited Ohio State. He doesn’t have an offer from the Buckeyes but the visit was still a positive experience, he says.

“It went well. It was cool seeing the team practice and see how they operate,” Grover said.

Were the Buckeyes to offer, Grover admits things could change in his recruitment. This is Ohio State, after all.

“If Ohio State was to offer I would definitely have to take a step back and explore my options,” Grover said.
