Rutgers basketball forward Oskar Palmquist returns to the Scarlet Knights after entering the transfer portal on March 24th. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound junior from Sweden committed to Elon University on May 5th but reconsidered, entering the transfer portal on July 14th. On Sunday, Palmquist came back home to play with the Scarlet Knights.

Palmquist first committed to Rutgers in 2020 after receiving one offer from Western Kentucky. Over the last three seasons, the junior forward appeared in 48 games, recording two starts. Palmquist had his most active season in 2023, playing in 21 of the team’s 34 games for the Scarlet Knights. He averaged 9.8 minutes per game, 2.3 points, 1.1 rebounds, and shot 36.4 percent from three-point range.

The Swedish forward had his best game last season against No. 18 Indiana, posting nine points, shooting three of four from behind the arc.

With his return, Palmquist is the most efficient three-point shooter on Rutgers’ 2023-24 roster. Forward Aundre Hyatt is the second-highest three-point shooter, behind Palmquist on the Scarlet Knights roster at 30.6 percent. Palmquist is one of the program’s most experienced players heading into the upcoming season.

He will play alongside center Cliff Omoruyi and forward Mawot Mag in the 2023-24 season. Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell will use Palmquist off the bench for instant offense, giving his team a spark when needed. Palmquist rejoins the team with two years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
