For Paul Mulcahy, the start of the 2022-2023 campaign did not start as planned. The Rutgers baskletball guard missed a handful of games after suffering a shoulder injury in the season opener against Columbia. Over the last few weeks, he has started to round into form and has been a scoring machine.
In 20 games this season, Mulcahy is averaging 8.3 points a game. Over the last two weeks, that number has steadily been on the rise. As Rutgers has gone 3-3 in their last six games, Mulcahy has reached double digits four times. He has recorded 48 points in that span and is 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
This, even as Mulcahy didn’t score in Sunday’s win at Penn State. It is a great sign for Rutgers that they aren’t reliant on his scoring.
But it is also encouraging that the Rutgers guard has done a nice job in recent weeks of getting to the basket consistently.
As Mulcahy has found his scoring touch, Rutgers has reached the 90-point mark in two of their last four games. It is the first time all season that they have accomplished that feat. While that is not solely due to the talented senior, he has provided Rutgers with a spark offensively.

On a team with tournament aspirations, Mulcahy rounding into form at the perfect time. He has been an assists machine all season but now he is adding another element to his game.

While he is not the Scarlet Knights leading scorer, Mulcahy is emerging as a solid third option. With Cam Spencer and Clifford Omotuyi leading the way, Mulcahy’s recent play has given Rutgers another weapon.

Following a disappointing loss to Indiana on Tuesday, Mulcahy and Rutgers will be looking to redeem themselves on Saturday against Illinois. The Scarlet Knights should be in good hands if Mulcahy can continue his recent play.
